Our History
During the furniture industry expansion after World War II, Grand Rapids, Michigan became the furniture capital of the United States. Through extensive trial and error, and with the desire to preserve our natural resources, Nelsonite was formulated by founder and entrepreneur, Fred Dean. From there, Nelsonite grew into a manufacturer supplying the furniture industry with proven formulas that increased productivity and sustainability. Sales grew by word-of-mouth and limited advertising throughout the Midwest.
In 1977, Nelsonite was incorporated by Daniel Conway and started marketing the formulas further south and west. As a result, sales increased and new markets emerged. By 1984, Nelsonite was exporting to Taiwan. Shortly after, China, South Korea, and Singapore had local Nelsonite distributors. That early success has propelled Nelsonite internationally.
Currently, owner Scott Knutson continues Nelsonite as a small family business in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nelsonite supplies today’s leading industries with the same formula that has become recognized worldwide.
